Mission, Vision, and Values

Strategic Purpose

The mission of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) is to provide students with a graduate education that will further their careers as health care leaders and innovators. The MHA program prepares students to successfully deal with the numerous challenges confronting health care organizations and leaders in a future characterized by changing economic incentives and interdependent relationships between health care providers, payers and purchasers.

Our Students

The program is designed to meet the academic requirements of early and mid-career professionals who aspire to develop and advance their careers in the health care industry.

Employment Target

After completing the program, graduates are prepared to advance their careers or seek employment in entry level or mid - level management jobs in a variety of health care organizations including hospitals, health systems, ambulatory care facilities, consulting firms, associations and other health care related organizations.

Focus of the Curriculum

The program prepares future executives with strategic, business, analytic and decision-making skills, and health care industry and operational management knowledge needed to manage change, foster innovation and meet public expectations for value, commitment to caring about people and accountability.

Curriculum Design

The curriculum is based on developing student proficiency in competencies organized into five domains:

  • Knowledge of the health sector and health care management
  • Communications and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving
  • Management and leadership
  • Professionalism and ethics

The Faculty

The MHA faculty consists of health-related professionals with advanced preparation and relevant experience in various leadership, consulting and technical positions supporting health systems, consistent with the areas in which they are teaching and (where relevant) conduct research.  Consistent with the mission of the university, the MHA hires and supports a diverse, qualified faculty who are actively engaged in the full academic role (academic teaching, service and research/scholarship). The research of consequence and scholarship of the faculty reflects a breadth of scientific disciplines, scholarly inquiry and contributions to advance the profession of health care administration and improve the health of the communities we serve.
