Biography

Beginning in 2009 Dr. C. Phillip Bush provided occasional lectures in bioethics to graduate Health Administration and Policy classes at George Mason University. He has been an adjunct professor at George Mason since January of 2013 teaching undergraduate courses in Bioethics. Dr. Bush’s full time employment is with Inova Health System where he serves as the Chaplain Manager at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital. Under his leadership the chaplain service provides care to hospital staff, patients and families. He serves as the chair of the Palliative Care and Bioethics Committee. In this role Dr. Bush seeks to expand and improve palliative care within the hospital. He leads ethics discussions with staff and others and convenes and conducts ethics consultations. As a part of the hospital leadership team, Dr. Bush participates in initiatives to improve quality and patient satisfaction in the hospital. He serves as a liaison to the religious communities surrounding the hospital. Recently Dr. Bush designed and implemented a Moral Distress Response Team. Subjects of special interest are leadership, family systems theory applied to the workplace, and integrating international leaders into preexisting teams.
