Biography
Jim Oakes has been a leader in the healthcare IT industry virtually from its inception, starting with managing implementations of early stage medical information systems, and continuing through planning, negotiating agreements, and overseeing the deployment of large scale multi-enterprise systems. He has held a variety of senior level positions as a vendor executive, a consultant, and as a provider. He specializes in helping healthcare providers plan and optimize their use of information resources, systems, and technology to improve clinical, operational, and financial outcomes. He has assisted a number of Health Information Exchanges in developing viable business models and developing strategic plans. He co-authored the book, Return on Investment: Maximizing the Value of Health Information Technology, which was recognized as the HIMSS Book of the Year in 2003. He is recognized as an expert in the area of return on investment and does frequent presentations on the topic. He is a founding member of the Healthcare Technology Network of Greater Washington, and has served on a variety of nonprofit boards and advisory panels. He holds a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering and a Master of Science in Industrial Management, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
