Biography

Dr. Brenda Helen Sheingold, is the Interim Coordinator for the Masters of Healthcare Administration at the Department of Health Administration and Policy.  She was awarded a PhD from George Mason University and a Master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business, where she also earned a graduate certificate in Women’s Leadership and Change Management. Her undergraduate degree is in nursing, and she practiced as an Emergency Department nurse for 20 years. She helped pioneer the role now known as the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) in Arlington, Virginia for survivors of sexual assault. 

Her research to identify and measure social capital in the healthcare workforce has been replicated by scholars globally and recognized by the Royal College of Nursing.  She has presented at numerous national and international conferences including Australia, Germany, Ireland, Scotland and England, has authored textbook chapters on healthcare policy and published in peer-reviewed journals such as Health Affairs, Nursing Economics, World Medical & Health Policy, Journal of Allied Health, and the International Journal of Education Research. She was founding faculty for George Washington University’s School of Nursing where she served as the Director of the Healthcare Quality Master’s and Doctoral programs. Dr. Sheingold was an invited Delegate to the Transatlantic Expert’s Forum on Health Policy, Berlin, Germany, funded by the German Federal Recovery Program, Bundersrepublik, Deutschland for five consecutive years.

In 2012, Dr. Sheingold was inducted into the National Academies of Practice as a Fellow and Distinguished Scholar.
